In episode 27 we create a Downtempo Electronica track from scratch using Logic Pro X and only its internal plugins and sounds. We setup the DAW at 92 BPM at a 96000KHZ refresh rate.

We kick it off by recording the first drum in real time, once the MIDI parts are in the DAW re quantize them and start building up the other parts by replicating the MIDI file and moving the notes to different patterns to create the slow smooth downtempo groove that will be foundational to this track building.

Then we move on to record the bassline in real time using the keyboard musical Typing! First we browse some bass patches in Logic’s own Alchemy Synthesizer, we are looking for something dark to fit our track ambition to stay in the electronica / trip hop realm. We then look for keys to complement the bassline and push the groove further, we are able to record some cool melody that complement the track perfectly, success! We then process by replicating the original bass keys and create a simple chord with it that will be used for a drone or pad sound. After browsing for a patch, we finally settle on a dark evolving background sound.

To complete this jam session we create a unique lead by playing the key in real time and recording the MIDI, we then replicate the parts and set one of them to a whole tone lower to create an enveloping sound, now we are in solid electronica territory!
